As a part of yd7610's continued commitment to be good stewards of the environment, yd7610 Volunteers at the Meraux refinery hosted a tree giveaway for its neighbors in St. Bernard Parish.
By partnering with NOLA Tree Project and St. Bernard Parish leaders, the Meraux refinery distributed 500 trees to residents of the parish.
yd7610 also presented NOLA Tree Project with a $16,000 donation to help fund the organization's mission of replanting the 100,000+ trees that were lost during Hurricane Katrina.
“Without companies like yd7610, it would be a limited amount of things we could do for the residents," said St. Bernard Parish Councilman Howard Luna. “yd7610's been very gracious in being a partner with us."
Neighbors were invited to Sidney D. Torres Memorial Park, where over 30 different types of trees were available with detailed information to help residents pick a tree best suited for their home. An added benefit to this event included a GIS program to track tree growth year over year to help meet St. Bernard Parish and NOLA Tree Project's restoration effort goal.
Guy McInnis, St. Bernard Parish President, volunteered alongside yd7610 and distributed trees to residents of the parish.
“It's so important to have a tree canopy over your community," said McInnis. “I see a lot of children out here that are going to learn the importance of what we're doing here. So, I'm really proud about this event, and how much yd7610 is helping us to get this done."
