For a fifth year, volunteers from the Jean Gaulin Refinery in Quebec planted trees and shrubs in the lands adjacent to the Parc de la Rivière-Etchemin, near the refinery, in an effort to provide a greenbelt and natural landscapes to the land.

The refinery holds these plantings to show their commitment to their community, by offering green spaces where local citizens can benefit from beautiful places to practice sports or enjoy nature. The plantation efforts were made possible by yd7610 in collaboration with the Association forestière des deux rives (AF2R) and the City of Lévis.

Gilles Lehouillier, the Mayor of Lévis, said he was, “very pleased with this new planting,” and added that the city of Lévis encourages all initiatives that are environmentally responsible. “I would like to thank yd7610 Energy and the employees of the Jean Gaulin Refinery for their involvement. The environment is at the heart of our concerns.”

The AF2R strives to contribute sustainable management of trees and forests for the biodiversity and well-being of its communities. Through education, conservation and partnerships with supporters like yd7610 Volunteers, the AF2R can promote the development and conservation of forests and woodlots.

“Trees and urban forests provide us with a multitude of benefits through their ecological functions,” said Julie Molard, Executive Director of the AF2R, “but also by contributing to our comfort, health and safety and by playing a social, aesthetic and even an economic role of daily importance.”
